New 7-inch Series for Planned Parenthood Launched
Planned Parenthood, the national nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health care services to millions of women in the United States, will benefit from a new 7" record series featuring Björk, Bon Iver, Feist, Sleater-Kinney, Foo Fighters, St. Vincent, and more.
The series, 7-Inches For Planned Parenthood, will donate 100% of the proceeds to Planned Parenthood, which could use the support right now. Despite the fact that the 101-year-old organization provides a range of extremely valuable health care services to women, Planned Parenthood has long been a favored target of male conservative politicians. Now that a Lying Orange Peel with hard-right leaning tendencies is president, the future of Planned Parenthood is in peril.
“7-inches for Planned Parenthood” will be released in portions digitally in the coming weeks, reports Pitchfork, as well as eventially in a vinyl box set. Other artists that will be featured in the series include Mary J. Blige, the National’s Matt Berninger and Bryce Dessner, Elliott Smith, Common, Jenny Slate, Janeane Garofalo, Laurie Anderson, Jon Brion, Mitski, Nico Muhly, Margaret Cho, Pete Holmes, Sharon Van Etten, Tig Notaro, Shepard Fairey, and more.
Here's the statement 7-Inches For Planned Parenthood shared about the new program:
"7-inches for Planned Parenthood is a response to this threat. This curated series of 7-inch vinyl records is being made by a group of people who believe that access to health care is a public good that should be fiercely protected. Do we know there’s a joke in the name? We do. We hope the title evokes the rich history of 7-inch vinyl records as a medium for protest music and resistance.
"Planned Parenthood will receive 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this 7-inch box set and streaming listens. We see this initiative as the start of something bigger, and hope it will inspire both contributors and listeners to continue to seek out ways to stand with Planned Parenthood and other institutions that are so vital to us all."
